Why Are People Filing Mounjaro Lawsuits?
People choose to file a Mounjaro claim to seek compensation after experiencing unexpected and severe side effects. They may have started the medication to manage type 2 diabetes or lose weight without realizing their full risks.
Mounjaro lawsuits allege that Eli Lilly & Company:
- Failed to warn doctors and patients about severe side effects
- Had a duty to inform consumers and health care providers about adverse reactions
- Knew or should have known about serious symptoms
Women may be especially affected since they’re more likely than men to take GLP-1 medications like Mounjaro. According to KFF, 15% of women are currently taking a GLP-1, compared to 9% of men.
If you or a loved one took Mounjaro (tirzepatide) and suffered a serious injury, you may be able to pursue compensation. Our compassionate team can help you understand your legal options.

Mounjaro Lawsuit FAQs
Is there a lawsuit against Mounjaro?
Yes, many Mounjaro lawsuits have been filed in federal court and grouped into 2 main multidistrict litigations (MDLs). They’re ongoing, so payouts haven’t happened yet. Our team is closely monitoring the MDLs to give families a better idea of when to expect compensation.
Here’s how the 2 Mounjaro MDLs compare:
- MDL 3094: This combined lawsuits that claim GLP-1 drugs like Mounjaro and Ozempic® caused adverse and unexpected GI complications.
- MDL 3163: This Mounjaro blindness lawsuit alleges that GLP-1 drugs caused vision loss (NAION), which may be permanent.
Both MDLs are overseen by U.S. District Judge Karen S. Marston in the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. They continue to move forward with bellwether trials, which means there’s still time to join.

What are the long-term effects of Mounjaro?
Mounjaro claims cite serious symptoms that people say they weren’t aware of when they started taking the weight loss drug.
While the medication can cause common side effects like stomach cramping and diarrhea, some people allege they’ve had complications with permanent effects.
Serious long-term Mounjaro side effects include:
- Bowel obstructions (ileus)
- Inflammation in the gallbladder
- Pancreatitis
- Severe vomiting or nausea
- Stomach paralysis (gastroparesis)
- Sudden vision loss (NAION)
- Other gastrointestinal issues
Many of these conditions require ongoing treatment, hospitalization, or surgery, which Mounjaro settlements can help cover. You didn’t deserve what happened to you, and you shouldn’t have to manage related costs out of pocket.
Can Mounjaro affect eyesight?
Yes, Mounjaro can potentially impact eyesight. Many patients have complained that they developed non-arteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy, known as NAION, after using Mounjaro. NAION can potentially lead to vision damage.
Some of those patients filed Mounjaro lawsuits, which are now part of MDL 3163. The federal lawsuit consolidates NAION vision loss claims made by people who were taking weight loss medications.
As of October 2026, 247 cases were pending in this MDL. There may still be time for others to join, depending on each person’s medical history and vision loss severity.
Is there a Mounjaro class action lawsuit?
No, most Mounjaro cases are part of MDLs, which are different from class action lawsuits. In an MDL, similar cases are grouped for pretrial steps, but each victim’s case is still reviewed on its own facts. Settlements are determined based on case-specific factors.
A class action lawsuit combines identical claims and divides compensation equally among them. Both can lead to settlements or verdicts, but they split payouts differently.
While there have been no Mounjaro legal payouts yet, MDLs may allow you to get a fairer payout that’s specific to your injuries rather than if the cases were filed as class actions.
How much are Mounjaro lawsuit settlement payouts?
There haven’t been any Mounjaro lawsuit settlements or verdicts yet, but the cases are ongoing. Both MDLs are proceeding with bellwether trials, and compensation could vary for each.
